Colorectal Cancer Screening

The American Cancer Society recommends Colorectal cancer screening starting at age 45.

According to new guidelines from the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer screening should begin at age 45 for average risk adults.

The changes are due to the increased incidence of colorectal cancer in younger adults.

Among the other recommendations:

• beginning at age 50, regular colorectal screening is strongly recommended
• regular screening is recommended through age 75 for those yet average risk who have a life expectancy of more than 10 years.

For adults aged 76 to 85, clinicians should individualize the decision to screen.
